Allison Van Steensburg
Allison is a consultant with the Boston office of Milliman, working out of its South Burlington, Vermont, location. She originally joined the firm in 1997.
Experience
Allison has been involved in a broad range of actuarial consulting services while working with a wide range of clients.
Her clients include multiline personal and commercial property and casualty insurers, reinsurers, captive insurance companies, self-insurers, risk retention groups, risk and reinsurance pools, municipalities, and state insurance departments.
Allison's property and casualty experience includes loss reserving and pricing for both insurance and reinsurance products, simulation modeling, and data analysis.
Her consulting assignments include the following:
- Assistance with the formation and ongoing operation of various alternative risk financing vehicles (captives, risk retention groups, risk pools)
- Evaluation of reinsurance options and contract language
- Support for traditional and risk-based state insurance department financial examinations of large insurance companies
- Forecasting and monitoring of underwriting results and profitability by line of business
- Development and pricing of new insurance coverages
Allison also recently spent four years working for a reinsurance company in Bermuda, where she assisted with the actuarial loss reserving for reinsurance contracts for all property, casualty, and specialty lines of business.
Allison assisted in the development and maintenance of a comprehensive reserving model in Microsoft Access that incorporated claim, financial, and contract term details with actuarial methodology, industry data, and cedant specific patterns and assumptions. She also performed risk management reviews of the pricing for reinsurance deals, with a focus on working layer casualty lines for both excess of loss and quota share reinsurance.
Allison also has extensive experience with reinsurance claims and contract wording, and assumed the role of liaison between the actuarial, underwriting, finance, claims, and IT departments.
