
Maria Schiopu
Maria Schiopu serves as principal and managing director in the Fund Services business line of the Milliman Financial Risk Management Practice in Chicago. She joined the firm in 2013. In her current role, Maria is part of the Fund Services leadership team, overseeing the business line overall, including strategic planning and fund client partnerships, with a focus on mutual fund investment mandates and the supporting technology infrastructure.
Experience
Maria has extensive experience in portfolio management and investment strategies. She serves as the portfolio manager for several funds in the market that utilize Milliman’s distinct investment and risk management techniques, including the Milliman Managed Risk Strategy™. Her deep expertise in quantitative derivatives overlays has been utilized by our fund clients encompassing tens of billions of dollars in assets under management. Maria brings a unique combination of actuarial and portfolio management expertise to her work with Milliman’s fund clients. As a portfolio manager of 1940 Act funds, Maria has consistently helped both insurance companies and large asset managers navigate a variety of challenges related to quantitative strategies, trading in capital markets, compliance, and risk management. Previously, Maria led model validation, systems design, and ETF research efforts at Milliman.
