Darrell D. Spell
Darrell Spell is a principal and consulting actuary with the Tampa office of Milliman. He joined the firm in 1998, after spending 16 years in the life and health industry corporate setting.
Experience
Prior to joining Milliman, Darrell served as the product line manager for individual accident and health products for GE Financial Assurance (GEFA). In that role, he was responsible for the pricing and management of individual health products, including supplemental products (accident, specified disease, etc.), specialty products (such as critical illness), and senior products (Medicare supplement, etc.). He also has extensive experience in the development of long-term care products. Before joining GEFA, Darrell worked in various roles, including actuary, marketing director, and regional sales director.
Darrell’s primary area of concentration is in the development of supplemental products, such as limited benefit medical, hospital indemnity, cancer, accident, critical illness, long-term care, and combo life/health products. He has extensive experience in all aspects of the management of individual health products, including pricing and product development, market introduction strategy, contract development, rate filing, and experience analysis. His previous experience as marketing director, and later as regional sales director, for a major regional payroll deduction company provided Darrell with valuable insights into the entire marketing and sales process and enhanced his approach to product development.
