Michael Sudduth is a principal and consulting actuary with the St. Louis office of Milliman. He joined the firm in 1993.
Experience
Michael manages the production and the actuarial calculations underlying the valuation, cost studies, certifications, and experience studies for multiemployer and public employer plans. He regularly meets with his clients and has constructed numerous deterministic and stochastic models in connection with special consulting projects.
Michael currently works with public employee pension funds in Springfield (MO), Overland (MO), Berkeley (MO), Overland Park (KS), and Tulsa County (OK).
Michael’s recent projects include:
- Working with multiemployer pension plans to develop contribution and benefits strategies and policies
- Working with city councils to understand the benefit levels currently provided to city employees and the contribution requirements associated with various future benefit levels
- Meeting with trustees to discuss assumption changes
- Working with bargaining parties regarding plan change options, including potential defined contribution options
- Working with multiemployer plans to respond to Pension Protection Act requirements, including developing and updating rehabilitation plans and funding improvement plans
- Preparing withdrawal liability calculations for multiemployer plans
- Working with multiemployer pension plans on mass withdrawals and insolvencies
