Meseret Woldeyes
Meseret Woldeyes is a managing data scientist with the Minneapolis office of Milliman. She joined the firm in 2019.
Experience
Meseret has over a decade of experience in the healthcare industry and has extensive experience in analyzing big data and developing predictive models in the healthcare setting. She has been part of the development of the Milliman Long-term Care Advanced Risk Analytics® (LARA®) product from inception and has developed several models to predict the likelihood and severity of long-term care claims. In addition, Meseret performs testing of predictive models to reduce the potential for bias in healthcare applications.
Meseret has experience in analyzing consumer data and effectively using social determinants of health (SDoH) and climate data in a variety of analyses. She also assisted in development of custom Milliman Advanced Risk Adjusters® (MARA®) models that were adopted by the State of Utah for Medicaid capitation rate setting.
In addition, Meseret specializes in code translation from SAS to Spark. As part of a major data migration project, she collaborated with Milliman’s Health Research Team (HRT) in managing timelines and transitioning complex SAS-based analytics to run on a Spark platform. She also assists HRT in creating longitudinal healthcare claims and encounters research databases that span multiple lines of business and have over 100 million insured members annually.
Prior to Milliman, Meseret worked at Anthem Inc (now Elevance Health) as a business information consultant and developed multiple visualization tools using Tableau to effectively monitor healthcare providers’ financial performance. She also developed several efficient and well-organized SAS and SQL programs to extract data from an enterprise data warehouse and analyze complex healthcare claims data.
Meseret has also worked for UnitedHealth Group where she created robust Tableau dashboards and supported the Medicare & Medicaid business segment in enhancing and maintaining production level SAS programs. In addition, she worked with leaders of different IT organizations within UHG in managing resources effectively.
TECHINICAL SKILLS
Meseret is proficient in writing programs using Python, R, Spark, SAS, and SQL. She uses cloud computing platforms such as Databricks to create machine learning models as well as to perform other complex data analyses. In addition, she is expert in creating data visualizations to effectively monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
