Diabetes is a significant concern in the U.S. population and is associated with an increased risk of the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). CVD is the major cause of both mortality and morbidity for adults with diabetes as well as a major contributor to the total cost of medical care. This analysis identifies the annual rate and cost of cardiovascular (CV) events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the contribution of these CV events to both T2DM annual costs as well as total Medicare fee-for-service and commercially insured population annual costs.
