Regulations that took effect January 1, 2021 introduced a new level of price transparency in the U.S. healthcare system. For the first time, hospitals and health systems are required to publish price data. This brief provides price observations from the first five months. Of the health systems Milliman reviewed, only 61% of providers have posted information containing most key items, and there’s a wide variance of data quality among those reporting. The reporting entities splits into three groups: “No or limited files posted,” “primarily just payer-agnostic standard charges,” and “contained most key items."
