This podcast with R. Dale Hall of the Society of Actuaries features an interview of Milliman’s Cody Webb, who discusses the recent paper, “Health and Hurricanes: Studying Disparate Health Impact of Extreme Climate Events, 2017-2020.” The research considers the relationship between health and hurricanes, beyond the direct consequences of the storms themselves. Webb notes that indirect hazards also exist in connection with the aftermath of the storms, and identifies four main categories for investigation:
- Mental health
- Emergency injuries
- Environmental exposure
- Preventive care
